Food Freedom

* Oh, what they did to sacred corn! Genetically-Engineered Corn and Hispanics

on Tue, 11/01/2011 - 1:19pm
" It’s disturbing walking through HEB, and seeing overweight Hispanic families attempting to find good food for their families.  It is hopeless because the food has been rigged against them, and more against them than any other segment of the country. As Hispanics have developed diabetes, the government tells them that they have a genetic predisposition to diabetes which is why they have more than other groups.  Or it tells them that they feed their children poorly, or it tells them they don’t get enough exercise.

* Rawesome Shutdown: The War on Food Freedom

on Tue, 11/01/2011 - 1:17pm
""If the people let government decide what foods they eat and what medicines they take, their bodies will soon be in as sorry a state as are the souls of those who live under tyranny." -- Thomas Jefferson." "What if I don't want to consume packaged food riddled with antibiotics? What if I don't want to shop at Whole Foods, where they produce the main staples? What if I refuse to shop at Trader Joes where the source of their food is Monsanto based agro business?

* North Dakota Farmers Push for Constitutional Right to Farm

on Mon, 10/31/2011 - 12:44pm
"Doyle Johannes has worked land near the Missouri River in central North Dakota for 35 years, raising everything from corn to cattle. He's not about to let someone from outside the state's borders tell him how to go about his business. Johannes, who farms with family members near Underwood, is one of the backers of an effort to enshrine the right to farm and ranch in the constitution of the state that leads the nation in the production of a dozen crops -- from wheat and barley to navy beans and honey.

* State officials in Maine target local food sovereignty bills in effort to thwart food freedom

"5/16/2011 - A battle is erupting in Maine as state bureaucrats challenge the validity of the various food sovereignty bills recently passed by a handful of towns in the Pine Tree State. The bills override numerous provisions in the federal Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) that increase federal and state control..." http://www.naturalnews.com/032412_Maine_food_freedom.html

* Dairy Farmer Michael Schmidt: 3 Weeks on Hunger Strike, Wants Talks With Canadian Premier McGuinty

on Sat, 10/29/2011 - 12:12am
"A reader commented on The Bovine site, Michael Schmidt’s WordPress blog, that if it’s legal to buy all sorts of raw foods:  beef, pork, chicken, sushi and raw vegetables (which we know, of late, can be contaminated with e-coli or other organisms) as well as PRODUCTS THAT ARE KNOWN TO BE HARMFUL TO HEALTH such as alcohol, tobacco and over-the-counter drugs — then WHY is it illegal for people to drink milk from a cow-share? Read the above paragraph again. As I said in last week’s post on this hunger strike by Mr.

* Tell Congress and the FDA their Draft Guidance on NDIs is Bad for Consumers

on Fri, 10/21/2011 - 11:17am
"The FDA issued draft guidance for complying with the New Dietary Ingredient (NDI) notification protocols. This guidance will create such huge barriers for supplement manufacturers that it will be much more difficult and expensive to produce them. But of course, that means consumers would either have to pay much more for nutritional supplements, or else risk not being able to buy them at all if the manufacturer deems them too expensive to produce." https://secure3.convio.net/aahf/site/Advocacy?cmd=display&page=UserActio...
